It’s strange, but I’ve really missed the aching legs and other parts after a decent hard ride! My test for Brugada syndrome was negative, so whilst I’ve not had the all clear from a consultant yet I’m back on it as far as cycling hard is concerned!
I’m not at my peak, that’s for sure – my first attempt at a sprint was over 8 seconds slower than my previous best, but a subsequent attempt was only 1 second slower (which taking into account I was on the TDF with mudguards is pretty good!)
Yesterday I tried one of the sillier local segments which involves doing a loop five times (there are also ten and fifteen loop segments!) Each loop takes around 15 and a half minutes, so I thought I might have a shout at getting the fastest time. I wasn’t helped by a strong easterly wind – what benefit I gained going west was more than negated when going east. I did ok though – my splits were on track, and I kept up the effort for the full 5 laps (although the fifth lap was pretty horrible!) Luckily I had a tailwind on the way home as I had nothing left!
Frustratingly, I was 1 second off the KOM! But it gives me a target and I know I need to rebuild my fitness anyway. I am still sore but I have really missed the feeling!
